Banking is a simple process in Germany. The major retail banks are Deutshe Bank, Commerzbank, Posbank, Dresdnerbank, Volksbank and Sparkasse. It is easy to open a bank account but you will need the correct documentation. Take the following documents with you:
- Proof of registration in Germany (polizeiliche Anmeldebestätigung)
- Address in Germany
- Passport
- Student Identification (if opening a student account)
Go to your chosen bank with the required documentation and ask to open an account. There a number of forms to complete but a bank clerk is available to assist you.
